Backstory:
Olivia Saxon was born to parents who didn't want her. Sounds like a tragic sob story, but it's really just the truth. She was left at the doorstep of a fire station, and from there, entered the system. The system, it's well known, isn't exactly kind to the children inside it.
She bounced from home to home, from foster parent to foster parent, until, at sixteen, she ran away to New York and tried to make her own way in the world.
There's no few men who are more than willing to educate a girl on ways to make a living.
Grimm found her not too long after that, plucked her from the street after watching the rather ruthless way she dispatched a John who'd gotten a little too handsy after he'd gotten what he'd paid for. Offered her employment an a chance to hone the skills she'd picked up on her own.
Nala's got a whole wealth of things said about her in the Grimm Units. Prostitute with a heart of gold. Heartless bitch. Seductress. Emotionally stunted. Flirt.
No matter what they say, she knows she has an important place on the team. Seduction? Sure--she's got the face for it, and finds the best time to take out marks is when they're distracted by sex. Men or women, she's not picky. And once they're alone? She's wicked with her knives, and never goes anywhere without at least four on her person.
She'll kill whoever they tell her to, or isolate them for the team, and seducing a dealer or runner is as easy as the rest--giving the rest of them time to collect and reallocate their supply. Nala's fond of her team, protective of them, and it takes a good while before she trusts anyone outside their close-knit group.
Personality:
Nala is stubborn, a spitfire, and hates when people don't think she can do something. Sensitive about the fact that she's often seen as less because she operates in seduction and quiet one-on-one killings, she tends to attack before someone can hurt her or question her talent. She dabbles here and there in drugs, but tries to stay clean now that she's off the street.
The people she trusts are few and far between, but when she gives her trust to someone it is near completely. She has some strong animosity when it comes to Rafiki who, despite training her, manages to somehow get on every single nerve that she has.
With a tongue as sharp as the blades she carries, Nala may not be the quickest to make friends, but she certainly believes in loyalty and will protect her team at any cost. She doesn't go by Olivia to anyone, as that's a skin she'd happily shed if she could. She dodges her past almost entirely, and will evade nearly every question about it.
She's a new person now. So, just call her Nala.
Reason for joining?:
Given the choice between a lifetime in jail and proper employment, Nala wisely chose the latter. She whole idea of belonging to something bigger than herself as a sort of redemption came a bit later.
